JUGS108 Vintage Halloween

DSCF9227

I wasn’t going to do any more Halloween stuff—it’s HERE already! But I had some time yesterday to play in my craft room, and I had been kicking this idea around in my head for a long time, and after seeing the JUGS Wild Card challenge 108 (alter a frame), hosted by my sweet friend Elise, I just did it! I am not sure if this really is altering a frame; it is more like altering what was in the frame! So here we go:

DSCF9225

I got three long frames (16”) at a yardsale for $3—I dissected one and just slapped on a bunch of vintage Halloween images from the Graphics Fairy, Heartwarming Vintage and Crafty Secrets. I added some glitter and a little tiny bit of stamping & shading, but mostly it was first-grade cutting and pasting!!!

DSCF9238 DSCF9229 DSCF9231 DSCF9235 DSCF9236I would have liked to have added some medallions and some other spooky elements along the frame itself, but DH wanted his dinner, so I had to stop! It was a fun project though----I have ideas in my head for the other two frames now! Thanks for visiting and have a fun Halloween! And don't forget my blog candy here!

Paper Players 70 Candy Scarecrow

DSCF8519

Happy Sunday, everyone!  We had SNOW yesterday, so it is feeling more like winter than fall here in PA!  I promised yesterday that I would give you some details on Mr. Scarecrow!    But first, I do want to tell you that the regular Paper Players challenge is still going on!  This week, we have an “Anything Goes” challenge with a fall theme:

PP70

Nothing says “fall” like a scarecrow, right?  So here he is again:

DSCF8520

The body construction is pretty easy—just some pieces of Cajun Craze that were distressed by rubbing them directly on a CC stamp pad.  The body measures 4 1/4” x 2”, folded in half so that the opening is at the bottom; that’s where I stuck his legs in!  His shoulder and arms are one piece that measures 4” x 1/2”, and his sleeve is punched with the Pennant Punch, trimmed down to size.  Everything was shaded with a dauber as well.  Here is the rest of the construction:

  • Head – Basic Black punched with 1 1/4” Circle Punch, sponged with Craft White ink
  • Hat – Two Basic Gray ovals punched with the Large Oval Punch, sponged with Basic Gray ink
  • Beak – Daffodil Delight punched with 5-Petal Punch – cut one petal off – sponged with Pumpkin Pie ink
  • Bird – Basic Black punched with Bird Builder punch, using wing for body; punch wing again using scrap of black for second wing and Pumpkin Pie for beak
  • Buttons – Basic Black punched with 1/4” circle punch
  • Fringe – scraps of So Saffron cut in strips, sponged with More Mustard, then fringed with Paper Snips and curled up slightly
  • Legs – Cello bags found in the SU Holiday Mini Catalog (#124134 – 50 bags for $2.50).  These are filled with Reese’s Pieces, but you could use any small candies.  They have a peel & stick top so they are easy to seal!  I just taped them into the inside of his body.
  • Eyes – would have been easier to use a White Gel pen, but since I do not have luck with them, I used a white Watercolor Crayon and a blender pen

I also adhered a piece of chipboard about 3x1” to his back to give him some sturdiness to sit up.  It’s a little bit of work, but it’s not difficult at all and it goes pretty quickly!  A fun little gift for a special someone!  I had made another Halloween treat a while back using a scallop punch:

DSCF8088

I did some shading and added some jack-o-lantern features; gave him (or maybe it’s a her) shapely legs by tying off the ankles; and some curly arms with some chenille stems curled around a pencil!  Inside is:

DSCF8089

a chocolate-covered peppermint candy!  If you can find the wrapped kind (not the kind in a little foil bag), they work much better.  Unfortunately, my store was discontinuing these….I bought a bunch of them (and then ate them, one by one!) but now they’re gone.  I didn’t do a very good job adhering this---lots of scotch tape—but the recipient liked it!

Hope you have some time to play along with our “Anything Goes” fall challenge---put on your creative thinking caps and let’s see what you come up with!  And don’t forget my blog candy here!

Paper Players Blog Hop!!

Fall 2011 Blog Hop

Happy Saturday!  Are you surprised to see a Paper Players post on a Saturday?  It’s a special event—a Paper Players Blog Hop!  All the PP designers are showing off some of their best creations….and some of them may even have blog candy!  You’ll see ALL the Players at the bottom of this post.  So be sure to stop and visit every blog!  You’ll still be able to play along tomorrow at the Paper Players home blog too, so don’t miss it!

So, here’s my creation!  I did not think of this myself; the main construction was all the brainchild of Sarah Miller, who is a very creative  stamper!  You can see her card here.  I just added a little touch of my own:

DSCF8520

One More Halloween Card with FMS

DSCF9200

Can you handle one more Halloween card? I sent a lot of my cards to my local Curves for their upcoming craft sale, so I was scrambling to come up with one to mail to a friend! I used this week’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch:

FMS8

and pulled out my little Greeting Card Kids set, which has been totally neglected! Because I wanted a quick card, I chose to do this in a monochromatic theme:

DSCF9201

Cajun Craze is my color of choice, another neglected color from my ink pad rack! I used some elements from Creative Elements to make a frame for my sentiment and around the edge of the mat; a little button & rickrack from Tasteful Trims finishes it off.

Isn’t she a sweetie? Hope you have a wonderful Friday!

Spooky Coffin & PPA117

DSCF9163

I always give my niece & nephew a goofy Halloween gift—it’s mostly candy, but I try to put it in something fun. This year I downloaded a coffin pattern from MS and cut it out from some Basic Gray cardstock:

DSCF9159

My lighting is not too good; the colors are really a bit more intense. I added a little “trap window”":

DSCF9162

But on the inside, it is all good---lots & lots of candy! I added some big grosgrain ribbon in Halloween colors, too---after all, all coffins should have ribbon, right? That qualifies it for this week's Pals Paper Arts challenge, too! I did add a non-spooky little card:

Thanks for looking!

SSC226

DSCF9094

I finally had a chance to use a Stamping 411 sketch, which I haven’t been able to do lately:

SSC226

I hadn’t inked up the little Thanksgiving turkey image from Gift Givers, so I stamped him in Soft Suede and paired him with some Spice Cake DP:

DSCF9092

I have to admit, I am not too fond of my blender pen coloring here….I guess I was in too much of a hurry!  Or I am used to watercoloring!  Anyway, I added some punched borders and a fun little diecut leaf that I embossed after I cut it out:

DSCF9093

The embossing did make it a bit fragile, so I cut it apart and glued them in a random pattern; the button and linen thread sort of ties it all together!  I used a sentiment and leaf from Day of Gratitude for the inside:

DSCF9095

Wee Details:

  • Stamps:  Gift Givers, Day of Gratitude
  • Paper:  Sahara Sand, Soft Suede, More Mustard, Very Vanilla, Spice Cake DP
  • Ink: Soft Suede, More Mustard, Pear Pizzazz, River Rock
  • Acc:  Curly Label Punch, Little Leaves Die, Regals Button, Linen Thread, Blender Pen, Scallop Border & Scallop Edge Border Punches, Paper Piercer, Dimensionals, Daubers, Square Lattice Embossing Folder

ColourQ108 & CPS241

DSCF9089

Happy Tuesday! Happy ColourQ day! Here’s the palette we have to work with today:

cqc108

I had done a Halloween project using these spooky colors, but I changed my mind and ending up making a baby card!!! Here you go:

CQC108-LeAnne

It felt a bit odd using black ribbon on a baby card, but I think the contrast was nice! I did some paper-piercing of my little chicks, and the embossed polka dots and buttons echoed the design of the DP.

DSCF9086

I used this week’s Card Positioning System sketch as well:

CPS241_MFT

And here’s a peek at the inside:

DSCF9091

Thanks for visiting! I hope you will play along with these fun colors---a great chance to finish up those last-minute Halloween cards! Be sure to visit the CQC blog to see what the others came up with using these colors, and share your creation with us as well!

Pumpkin is getting a little more used to Cassidy as she learns to be “gentle”:

And even tries to “kiss” her:

DSCF9069

Oops….Pumpkin is not quite ready for that—she’s gone!

JB43 & OCCC

DSCF9062

Happy Monday, peeps! I snuck in a little stamping time yesterday as I knew I had a funeral today and wouldn’t have time. I lost track of my Christmas card postings, so when I saw the Our Creative Corner Challenge (faces) and the Jingle Belles challenge (softly falling snow), I knew I could combine them for a fun little retro card:

DSCF9064

Plus, my CQC teammate Noelle is hosting the Jingle Belles!! So I just had to play! Edited to add: I obviously did not read the challenge ALL THE WAY---I was to use something SOFT on my card---ooops! I will have to withdraw!!

It’s all Stephanie’s fault that I fell in love with these vintage Christmas images when I saw her card here. The only problem is that I don’t know quite whether to stamp them in black and try to color them in, or stamp them in a single color! I opted to stamp my little holiday miss in Baja Breeze, and added some Pink Pirouette for her cheeks. I then stamped the holly in Wild Wasabi and cut it out, glued it over the original, adding some pink pearls to match her cheeks:

DSCF9063

Isn’t she sweet? To give her a bit of “grounding” so it didn’t seem as if she was just floating on the page, I stamped the image first in Wild Wasabi on my glittery Christmas paper from My Mind’s Eye, and then mounted my cut-out image a little offset. A greeting from the same set, a little pink ribbon and a snowflake-punched edge finished it off. Oh, and of course, lots of snowy glitter, too!

Wee Details:

  • Stamps: Frosty & Friends, Artistic Outpost
  • Paper: Pink Pirouette, Whisper White, Christmas Pad, My Mind’s Eye
  • Ink: Wild Wasabi, Baja Breeze, Pink Pirouette
  • Acc: Blender Pen, Pearls, Pink Sharpie, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Pink Taffeta Ribbon, MS Snowflake Border Punch

Dana and I attended a party on Friday night and the hostess wanted us to bring Cassidy (big mistake!). Here are my attempts to capture her in her Halloween finery:

DSCF9017

Every bat girl needs her milk, right?!

DSCF9026

I’ll just rearrange these for you!

DSCF9042

Okay, I’ll play with my own toys!!!
